Chain of Hope received a call from some people that we have helped before. They had found a red Dobie puppy and they needed assistance with her. We headed over to see what was up. When we got there, they told me that the puppy was injured. They said they had found her a few days ago. They thought she had come out of a junkyard not far from them. They told me they had been keeping her in their basement. We went downstairs to meet this little girl.

We went down in their basement and there was Scarlet. She was skinny, very shy and she had a big, infected wound on the top of her head.  She had apparently been attacked by another dog. She had other smaller bite wounds on her head and body. The one on her head was very big and full of infection. The people thought that we were going to fix her up and bring her back to them, but we told them that they did  not need another dog over there when we already had to help them with food for their own dogs. We told them that they needed to sign her over to us if we were going to be able to help her. They signed her over, the guy carried her out to the van and off we went.

When we got her back to the vet clinic, they had to lance that wound and let all of that infection drain out of there. It was pretty nasty.  Scarlet was so shy, she wouldn’t even walk outside. We had to carry her out to potty at first. She was very scared and unsure of things. After a few days with Chain of  Hope, she began coming out of her shell a little bit. She would walk outside to potty and started becoming a little more relaxed.

One of our volunteers decided to foster Scarlet and she has just blossomed.  She’s discovered toys and running around a big back yard and she is very happy these days. Scarlet is now spayed, vaccinated, de-wormed and doing great! Check out how healthy this girl looks now!

Scarlet’s transformation was possible because of you, our donors. Thank you for enabling us to give Scarlet and so many others a new and wonderful life!

Another happy ending! I am glad you didn’t allow the people to keep Scarlet since they are receiving assistance from COH. Anyone who wants another dog should be able to feed and care for the dog on their own.
