Grace and Her Family

We received a call last week from a neighbor about a very skinny momma dog that was outside with her 7 puppies. It was bitter, bitter cold so this was an alarming call. We headed over and couldn’t believe what we saw in the backyard. This momma was more than just skinny-she was emaciated, literally skin and bones. The puppies were about 6 weeks old and they were in a cold, plastic dog house that had old cool whip containers and other junk in there. I could not believe that this poor starved momma had been able top keep her babies alive, fed and as warm as she could. It was killing her and she was not long for this world, I don’t believe. She was very sweet and we hugged her and told her that she did a good job keeping her babies alive and that her suffering was over. We loaded everyone up and brought them down to Chain of Hope. They spent a few days with us as we de-wormed momma, put her on some good puppy food for the calories and started supplementing the puppies. After about  2-3 days, the puppies became noticeably stronger. Whereas before they were just wanting to sleep in their puppy pile in the crate, after a couple of days they were coming out of their crate and starting to play, etc.

We named momma Grace. What a beautiful spirit she has and such a strong will to survive and keep her puppies alive.

We were able to transfer this little family over to Wayside Waifs, where they are doing very well back in Puppy Quarantine. They continue to eat well and to have more energy and spunk to them! Thank God this neighbor made the phone call. That neighbor saved this entire family’s lives, I have no doubt. Thanks for keeping Chain of Hope going so that we can help suffering animals such as this family.

Robin, was this near you? Whoever it may be, I thankyou for your strength and wisdom in situations as this. If people have a bad feeling that something is not right, especially your intuition telling you, then I praise you for doing the right thing and giving these animals their lives back. I have been meaning to write on this post for months. I actually adopted the last baby girl from this litter from Wayside back in February. She has been gods gift to my boyfriend and I. I can not imagine loving anything more and it is all thanks to you at Chain of Hope. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, you guys are all angels.
